Wowza Streaming Engine 4.0.3 - Longer seek times than Wowza 3.6. Why?

Dear colleagues,

We have been using Wowza 3.6 (in a Windows machine, properly tuned) as our production server for video on-demand files over RTMP, with very, very quick seek times. Almost instant.

In the past days, we’ve built a new Windows server running Wowza Streaming Engine 4.0.3, configured the very same application as in the previous server and hosted the very same video file. It streams perfectly, except for the seek time, which is strangely longer (around 4-6 seconds). We compared every single parameter on the application and found no differences.

Then, we tried the very same thing with a Linux machine running Wowza Streaming Engine 4.0.3 and found the very same behaviour: longer seek times compared to Wowza 3.6, for the very same video file.

All servers have the same exact specs and are on the same AWS zone.

We only see this behaviour when we use our custom-built player, in Flash. If we use the “Test Players” feature on WSE 4.0.3, the seek times are always fast, regardless of the Wowza version being used.

Does anyone have any ideas about what could be causing those longer seek times particularly in our player, only when files are served via WSE 4.0.3? Are there any parameters in WSE 4.0.3 that could be “tweaked” to fix this?

This same behavious happens with any other files being served.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Helder,

The only thing I can suggest really is to look at the source of the Wowza RTMP player, the .fla is included in the /examples folder.
