Default Configuration Propagation using Dynamic Load Balancing AddOn

    Hi,

We are using a single instance of wowza for reStreaming IP cameras. In order to accomplish this in a dynamic way (add or delete cameras) we extend wowza server capabilities by adding a rest service on it. This web-service provide CRUD operations for the streams among other things.

On the other hand, we are evaluating the Dynamic Load Balancing AddOn as an HA solution and also to increase the global service bandwidth (not a problem right now).

I have read the "Dynamic Load Balancing AddOn" article as well as the documentation attached inside the addon and I couldn't understand how the stream configuration is propagated among edge servers. Is this provided by this addon? Or we have to manually/programatically create each Stream on each edge server?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

With the origin/edge scenario in conjunction with the load balancer, you will be able to use your origin to ingest from your IP cameras and your edges to simply repeat the stream. The load balancer will work to distribute client playback requests between your edges based on total connections reported by them.

    Thanks,

    Matt

Thanks Matt, the origin/edge config was the missing piece we needed...

    Hello Matt,

We have configured origin/edge with load balancing and the primary tests works like a charm. One thig we notice is that redirecting (a.k.a balancing) works well with RTMP but not with HLS. Is HLS redirecting supported by wowza?

    Thanks in advance,

    Nicolás

    Hi,

The redirecting works with Flash clients that support the NetConnection redirect call.
When using the Loadbalancer addon for HTTP based streaming clients, you will need to use a 2 step approach. First you will need to send a request to the loadbalancer service which will reply with the IP of the least loaded server.
You will need to use this URL to get the least loaded Wowza server:
    http://[load-balancer-ip-address]:1935/loadbalancer
You can use the IP from the response during the second step when you construct the streaming playback URL, which will be passed to the media player.

As a side note, we had a similar discussion about that process here with some basic example script(s).
