Default Set Up Church Live Stream

Hi, my name is Gerald and I'm my Church media coordinator and we're trying to learn how to stream live online for the first time. We have 2 cameras and a mixer board to switch back and forth from the cameras. What can you tell me from what I just explained so far to be able to stream? I will be giving you all the models for everything when I get back to the equipment.

Hello, Gerald. Welcome to the Wowza support forum.

Wowza recommends a late model quad or dual quad CPU, 4 - 8g ram, 64bit OS and 64bit Java (Sun JDK), and 1 - 4gbs nic.

For vod content we recommend a RAID 0 or RAID 1+0 disk array with several disks.

The usual limiting factor is bandwidth. You should get about 800mbs per 1gbs. Which is about 1600 500kbs streams.

For live streaming you will need an encoder, Flash Media Live Encoder is a good example. You can use it to push the steam to Wowza by following this guide:
How to set up live streaming using an RTMP-based encoder

Please let us know if you need any help along the way.

What salvadore wrote is a great starting point, but depending on your needs you may want to consider alternatives as well.

If you indeed plan to have ~1500 simultaneous viewers, you may want to use CDN instead of getting a 1Gbps link. It could easily be cheaper to do so. Eg. Amazon's Cloudfront. More info about CDN -

You may also consider using cloud infrastructure instead of getting a physical server located at your premises. Eg. Amazon EC2 Wowza AMI, or even Wowza's cloud solution, which also includes CDN service. More info about Wowza's cloud offering -

You will definetly need an encoder and Adobe FMLE that salvadore mentioned is a great and free choice.

    Best regards
