Connecting Colleagues with Video: An In-Depth Look at CERN's Webcasting Solution

CERN, one of the world's largest and most respected centers for scientific research, consists of collaborators from more than 160 Universities and research facilities worldwide. In order to facilitate great collaboration, CERN decided they needed a webcasting solution that can connect their collaborators, without human IT support for each webcast. Starting small with fewer than 100 webcasts when they launched in 2012, CERN is now on track to stream more than 350 events in 2014 alone.

Marek Domaracky, Webcast Service Manager at CERN, and Ryan Jespersen, Training Manager at Wowza Media Systems, demonstrate how to set up a powerful webcast streaming solution.

In this session, you will learn:

  • How CERN is using webcasting as a collaboration tool
  • The evolution of the streaming system as the tool became more popular
  • How to configure an origin-edge system to allow for unexpected viewership
  • The benefits of streaming to any device in a collaborative environment
