In this video you'll learn the following:

  • How to leverage HTML5 to deliver video to OTT devices in-browser or using a feature-rich player like JW Player
  • How to use Wowza Transcoder with Wowza Streaming Cloud service and Wowza Streaming Engine software to deliver adaptive bitrate (ABR) streaming to OTT devices to improve the viewer experience
  • The benefits and drawbacks to supporting multiple OTT platforms, including whether you should develop your own custom applications or use a third-party service provider

Questions and Answers

Q: Does the player decides which bitrate is used?
A: Yes, the client chooses which bitrate to use out of the ones which are available in the .smil file. It works by detecting a user's bandwidth and CPU capacity in real time and adjusting the quality of a video stream accordingly. The player client switches between streaming the different encodings depending on available resources. The result: very little buffering, fast start time and a good experience for both high-end and low-end connections. Find out how to setup ABR here: http://www.wowza.com/forums/content.php?546

A: Absolutely, using JW Player's Chromecast implementation you can enable second screen experience and control for pause, rewind with Wowza Streaming Engine.

Q: For Ad Pre-roll, is it advised to do this through WSE or through the web player?
