Licenses and hot upgrades

We’re in the process of upgrading from 4.6.0 running on a dedicated VM to 4.8.5 running in a Docker swarm (currently using a developer license). If possible, we’d like to do this with no downtime, by running both servers in parallel while we handle the switchover via DNS, and then taking down the old server once the DNS change has propagated.

Is it possible to do this with one Wowza Streaming Engine Monthly License, or is there no way around bringing the first server down before bringing the second one up?

If both your old and your new server are running at the same time, you’ll be billed for two licenses. There’s no technical way to avoid that. But you can explain your case to customerservice@wowza.com and maybe they can help?

This is correct info and great advice from Karel for you @Library_IT. If they don’t run concurrently for a long period of time we won’t charge you, but please do as suggested and reach out to customer service to discuss beforehand.

@Rose_Power-Wowza_Com WIll do, thanks.
