Wowza RTMP -> VLC ?

Hi guys!

I have this situation. I have installed Wowza media server on my PC, running Windows XP SP3, and set up a simple video streaming app.

Now, if i try to play the stream with flowplayer, for example, it works, if i try with jw player it works. If i try to play the stream with VLC it doesn’t work.

In VLC I go to Media>Open Network stream select RTMP from the drop-down list and enter the adress rtmp://127.0.0.1/simplevideostreaming/myfile.flv or rtmp://127.0.0.1/simplevideostreaming/flv:myfile.flv i get the message

“VLC is unable to open the MRL ‘rtmp://127.0.0.1/simplevideostreaming/starcraft2.flv’. Check the log for details.”

When i check the log i see:

"access_rtmp error: body handshake received corrupt

access_rtmp error: handshake active failed

main error: open of `rtmp://127.0.0.1/simplevideostreaming/starcraft2.flv’ failed: (null)"

When i check the wowza console, every time i try to play the stream with VLC i see a new line like these:

INFO session disconnect 678035168 -

INFO session disconnect 976853761 -

INFO session disconnect 655689835 -

INFO session disconnect 1056574252 -

INFO session disconnect 1055334260 -

INFO session disconnect 1804027484 -

Wowza server version 1.7.2, Wowza Pro10 FREE.

Also does anyone know how can i play a RTMP stream in JW Desktop Player?

Any ideeas?

We don’t support streaming to VLC over RTMP. Our RTMP implementation is compatible with all Flash players on all the different platforms.

We are adding RTSP/RTP streaming support to Wowza Media Server 2. A preview release is here:

This is probably a more reliable way to send a stream to VLC.

Streams from Wowza Media Server Pro 1.7.2 can only be played in Flash clients.

You can use VLC to publish a stream to Wowza, which can then be played in Flash:

VLC claims support for RTMP playback but it does not seem to work very reliably.

You can use Adobe AIR to Build your own stand alone player.

I saw a lot of posts on how to publish a VLC stream to Wowza. It’s the other way araound that i’m interested.

I know that they claim that it works, that’s why i tryed. But cod you give me some information on why it didn’t work?

Could you recomend some other stand alone player that can play RTMP strems of flv files or H.264?

I am interested for a VOD solution. Also it would be interesting if there is a player that suports SecureToken.
