WSEM Could Not Connect to WSE - What is the root cause?

Hi guys,

We’re running Wowza Streaming Engine 4.7.8 running Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS.

I updated to Wowza Streaming Engine 4.7.8 recently on December 2nd. All was going well until yesterday (December 11th) when we got the following error:

I restarted the WowzaStreamingEngine service and I was able to login.
The same issue occurred today as well and was solved in the same way.

I found this error in /usr/local/WowzaStreamingEngine/manager/wmsmanager_error.log

Is there anyway that I can prevent this from happening? Would this have anything to do with the upgrade to 4.7.8?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Checking for you @Emily Cambridge

What version of Java are you using @Emily Cambridge? The new 4.7.8 is built on Java 9. Did you already happen to see these all these breaking changes before you upgraded to 4.7.8 including the java. tomcat and winstone changes?

Let me know and I’ll see if we may need a support ticket from you on this.

Hi @video streaming, I’m using Java 9. I followed the steps outlined here (https://www.wowza.com/docs/manually-install-and-troubleshoot-java-on-wowza-streaming-engine) and copied the OpenJDK Java SE JRE 9.0.4 files provided by Wowza into my [install-dir]/jre folder.

I’m just using http to connect to the WSEM not https, so I don’t believe that I’ll need to make any config changes regarding the switch from winstone to tomcat, but please correct me if I’m wrong.

I actually went ahead and created a ticket a bit after I created this post (#340952).

Ok thank you for doing that. I am not sure what the problem is, so I am glad there is a ticket and our engineers will assist you. I’ll take a look at the ticket tomorrow to see that is was assigned.
