• Playback devices that work with Wowza Media Server (mobile, set-top, desktop)

We are always trying to keep this list of devices (mobile handsets, desktop video players and set-top boxes) that work with Wowza Media Server updated. You can help by posting any information that you have about devices that you have tried that either work or don't work along with details about the Wowza Media Server version, protocol (RTMP, RTSP/RTP, MPEG-TS, etc.), and network connectivity (wired network, cellular network, WiFi connection, etc.) that you used to play the stream.

Note: Wowza Transcoder AddOn supports H.263 video encoding for live video streams when used with Wowza Media Server® 3.5. Devices (including many legacy devices) that support the H.263 video codec should be able to play the H.263-encoded output from Wowza Transcoder. For more information, see How to set up and run Wowza Transcoder AddOn for live streaming.

Can I just add that to stream to the Blackberry and Android you need to choose the correct resolution!

We are a TV channel and streaming @ 720x576 will simply not work on the Blackberry / Android. Use a resolution with which these devices work comfortably with such as 480x360!

Otherwise the stream won't work and you'll get a split second of audio before your phone gives you a nice notification of 'unsupported format' or 'video not found' <-- not too sure about Android error.

Streamit offers a set-top box that works perfectly with all versions of Wowza: Lukas Video.

      • It supports Apple HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) as well as multicast streaming (MPEG-TS).
      • Network connectivity includes wired network and WiFi.
      • Configuration is done through webpage with Javascript or file on USB stick (e.g., A configuration file of 3 lines is sufficient to let the Lukas Video play the Wowza demo HLS stream).
      • Integration with existing platforms is easy and supported with a well-documented API including working examples.

I just tested my mobile phone successfully.

Nokia 6120i Classic (Symbian S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1)

      rtsp://[wowza]/[app]/mp4:filename.3gp

When port 554 is not mentioned in VHost.xml you´ll need to add port 1935 in URL. This was tested with WowzaMediaServer 3.5.
