Wowza Media Systems Announces Ninja App Challenge Winner

IndieAdmin App Uses Wowza REST API to Empower Small Filmmakers

Golden, Colo.— April 28, 2015 — Wowza® Media Systems, provider of Simply Powerful Streaming™ technology, today announced Peter Couture, founder of IndieStream, as the winner of the Wowza Ninja App Challenge for his IndieAdmin iOS application. The challenge invited developers to build a mobile application that incorporated video streaming in an innovative way using the Wowza Streaming Engine™ REST API and awarded the winner with a $15,000 cash prize. A panel of judges selected IndieAdmin based on its overall user experience, originality, quality and use of the Wowza Streaming Engine REST API.

IndieStream is a platform that empowers small filmmakers to monetize their work without giving a large share to major Video on Demand (VOD) providers. With IndieStream, filmmakers can securely upload, transcode and distribute their content across a wide variety of platforms including mobile devices.

“The quality, cost and effectiveness of video streaming has the power to transform industries like filmmaking, and the IndieAdmin app is a great demonstration of this potential,” said David Stubenvoll, CEO and co-founder of Wowza Media Systems. “We congratulate Peter Couture for his creative use of the Wowza Streaming Engine REST API to build the IndieAdmin app, and we are excited to see continued innovation from developers with video streaming and mobile technology.”

The IndieAdmin application, which leverages the Wowza Streaming Engine REST API, allows users to upload and distribute content and videos using the power of multiple platforms including mobile devices. This iOS app gathers information about the streaming applications that have been installed with the IndieStream component and then allows users to upload and list available videos. The uploaded video content is then transcoded and made available via the IndieStream player.

“I’m overwhelmingly grateful to Wowza for their selection of IndieAdmin as the winner of the first Wowza Ninja App Challenge,” said Peter Couture, founder of IndieStream. “As streaming video rapidly takes over broadcast distribution, an easy A-Z digital solution is necessary and Wowza's support of the IndieStream platform has enabled us to bring it to market ahead of schedule.”
