Wowza Media Systems to Present on Multiscreen Experiences at Streaming Media Forum 2013

Seminar to Discuss Trends in Second Screen Usage, Examples and Methods of Multiscreen Streaming, and Best Practices

Evergreen, Colo.—June 17, 2013—Wowza® Media Systems, provider of Simply Powerful Streaming™ media server software, today announced that Vice President of Product Management Chris Knowlton will present a seminar titled “Enhancing the Second Screen Experience with Multiscreen Streaming” at the Streaming Media Forum 2013 in London. The talk will take place at the Park Plaza Victoria from 10:30 to 11:30 am on Wednesday, June 19. Knowlton will also participate in the panel presentation “Media Server Application Trends,” moderated by Tim Siglin from 11:45 to 12:30 pm on Wednesday, June 19.

Knowlton’s seminar will cover the use of ‘second screen’ apps, in which content on a mobile screen supplements the presentation being viewed on a TV screen. In particular, the seminar will focus on second screen apps that utilize streaming video to augment the television viewing experience. The session will address trends, definitions, examples, functionality, and best practices to give content providers an understanding of how they can enhance the user experience and drive maximum value from all video-capable screens at their disposal.

“Wowza provides robust media streaming software that allows content providers to deliver compelling first and second screen content using commodity server hardware,” said Knowlton. “However, the second screen is a new frontier in content delivery. Therefore, our goal is to show how content providers can leverage this technology to drive viewer engagement in ways that a lone TV screen cannot. With second screen apps, consumers can gain instant access to supplemental video content, such as character backgrounders, teasers, director commentaries, and cast viewing parties that can be synced to the shows and ads they are simultaneously enjoying on the TV screen. Essentially, we’re providing multi-screen streaming media delivery technology to attract and more fully engage viewers in your content.”

After the session, attendees will know key capabilities of multiscreen streaming and have a better understanding of how to deploy second screen and over-the-top (OTT) workflows. They will also get Knowlton’s perspective on the pros and cons of multiscreen streaming, and how it can be used to add value in ways that are unavailable on a single screen system. The seminar will close with a Q&A session.

A Streaming Media Magazine “2011 Streaming Media All-Star,” Knowlton is well known for his customer passion and 13 years of dedication to engineering and product management in the streaming industry. Prior to joining Wowza in 2011, Knowlton spent ten years at Microsoft, where he planned and executed its on-premises and cloud media server product roadmaps, founded the IIS Media team, and led cross-divisional and partner efforts to build the Microsoft Media Platform ecosystem. Today, Knowlton drives the product roadmap for Wowza, focusing on the continued creation of innovative technologies that advance streaming media for customers worldwide.
