How to Upgrade

Version upgrades are included with maintenance and support contracts. Be sure you have active maintenance and support before upgrading. For more details on the upgrade process, read How to upgrade Wowza Media Server software to Wowza Streaming Engine. Please note, the upgrade process varies by license type. Please read more about how to upgrade based on your license type. For license types not listed below, or if you are an OEM customer, please contact for information on how to upgrade.

Perpetual Edition Licenses

As of August 15, 2019, Perpetual Edition license holders must fill out the Docusign upgrade request form to upgrade to Wowza Streaming Engine version 4.x. Perpetual Edition upgrades are no longer available via My Account.

Subscription Licenses

On February 24, 2014, all Wowza Media Server 3.x subscription customers were emailed complementary Wowza Streaming Engine 4 license keys. If you did not receive your license key, please contact to request it.

Amazon EC2 Customers

There is no fee for upgrading to Wowza Streaming Engine on Amazon EC2. You will need to update your Amazon EC2 instance to a version 4 AMI to take advantage of Wowza Streaming Engine functionality.

Perpetual Licenses

Wowza Streaming Engine Perpetual edition customers may advance to Wowza Streaming Engine Pro by purchasing the Perpetual Pro Pack for $495. That pack contains licenses for unlimited use of Wowza Transcoder, nDVR, and DRM.

Subscription Plans

Subscription customers may advance to the new subscription plans for Wowza Streaming Engine and receive unlimited access to Wowza Transcoder, Wowza nDVR, and Wowza DRM. To move to a current susbcription plan, please request a plan change via the My Account Portal. Your request will take effect at the beginning of your next billing cycle.
