Wowza Media Server 3 Platform Gets High Marks From Beta Users and Gains Industry Recognition

EVERGREEN, CO — September 6, 2011 — Wowza Media Systems®, the “Any Screen Done Right™” media server software company, today announced that its upcoming Wowza Media Server 3 platform is receiving high marks from more than 1,500 companies participating in preview release testing. Wowza Media Server 3's innovative capabilities and superior any-screen streaming are also being recognized with nominations for several prestigious industry awards.

“We're excited about including Wowza Media Server 3 in our workflow,” said William Hetherington, director of technical services at content delivery network and streaming services provider NetroMedia. “We see it as a game changer for our live streaming clients. It will simplify the entire broadcasting process, enabling our clients to produce beautiful, smooth streams to a wide array of devices with a single, high-bitrate encoding profile.”

In addition, James Cunningham, managing director of service provider Streaming Wizard, said, “Wowza is about to change everything in the streaming world once again. Being able to transcode live webcasts from any source and deliver them out to any platform all from the same box will make things so much easier to manage. We also look forward to deploying the new Network DVR AddOn as it will enable us to make some really exciting user applications.”

Planned for commercial release in the fall, Wowza Media Server 3 is already being acknowledged with nominations for several prestigious awards. The product is shortlisted for the 2011 CSI Product Awards that will be presented on Sept. 9 at IBC2011. Wowza Media Server 3 is also nominated for Streaming Media’s European Readers' Choice Awards for Best Innovation of 2011, Best Server Hardware/Software, and Best Transcoding Solution. Voting for the latter awards is open through Sept. 23 at www.streamingmediaglobal.com/ReadersChoice/2011/Vote.aspx.

Additionally, the company will announce new capabilities at IBC2011 for Wowza Media Server 3 and its AddOn components. Among these is the Wowza Transcoder™ AddOn's new multi-GPU acceleration support for off-the-shelf Intel® QuickSync and NVidia® Cuda™ technologies, as well as adaptive transcoding of high-bitrate MPEG-2-encoded HD streams to H.264 video for any-screen delivery. These capabilities are now included in the Wowza Media Server 3 preview release available at www.wowza.com/products/streaming-engine.

“I'd go so far as to say Wowza Transcoder AddOn is the best live transcoding software I’ve used,” said James Creese, senior streaming and encoding technician with TVCatchup, a U.K.-based Internet television aggregation service. TVCatchup, a current Wowza customer, will deploy Wowza Media Server 3 to streamline and significantly improve reliability for transforming direct satellite MPEG-2 HD feeds for mass delivery of H.264 adaptive bitrate streams for Flash® and iPhone®/iPad® playback.
