Questions & Answers
Q: I would like to know if there is a user interface for the server that allows you to schedule a playlist to switch between various IP cameras, encoders, VOD (video on demand), etc. In our project, we have artists around the world broadcasting content and we would like to create a TV channel–style switcher for moving from content source to content source on a scheduled basis.
A: Wowza Streaming Engine software has a module that provides support for this use case: www.wowza.com/forums/content.php?145-How-to-schedule-streaming-with-Wowza-Streaming-Engine-%28ServerListenerStreamPublisher%29.
Q: When you record a stream can you also encrypt it with DRM (digital rights management) right away?
A: We do provide support for DRM encryption, but this doesn't typically happen on demand, using the record button. Please see www.wowza.com/products/streaming-engine/features/wowza-drm.
Q: What are the pros and cons of using Wowza Streaming Cloud vs. Google Compute Engine + Wowza Streaming Engine?
A: Wowza Streaming Engine software + Google Compute Engine allows you more customized deployments, while Wowza Streaming Cloud allows for a simplified and streamlined streaming solution.
Q: Is there separate pricing for the streaming server and the cloud service? And can you give a ballpark quote for 24/7 usage for 10 inputs/300 viewers? Also, do you give discounts for nonprofit organizations?
A: You would need to get a separate license from Wowza. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for a quote.
Q: Can Wowza technology ingest DASH/HLS?
A: Wowza Streaming Engine can output DASH/HLS, but currently we can only ingest RTSP, RTMP, MPEG-TS, and ICY/SHOUTcast protocols. For more detail please see www.wowza.com/products/streaming-engine/specifications.
