Versions Older Than 4.10 Do Not Support The Wowza Video Intelligence Framework

VIF extracts data from live video feeds to reduce time to action by sampling frames, routing them for analysis, and passing the data downstream as webhooks, metadata, logs, overlays, and custom listeners. Starting in Wowza Streaming Engine 4.11, you can configure STUN and TURN servers per application. That can be done either through Wowza Streaming Engine Manager, or in Application.xml. 4.11 also added full ICE candidate gathering, trickle ICE for faster connection setup, and TCP ICE candidate support for networks that block UDP. The TURN relay server also supports TCP and TLS, extending your WebRTC delivery into corporate and campus networks that block outbound UDP entirely.

The Work Behind Each Version

That capability list represents a specific volume of engineering effort, and most of it answered changes outside Wowza’s control.

Protocol standards moved, so WHIP and WHEP needed an implementation. NVIDIA driver version formats changed, so detection logic needed a correction. Linux kernels changed how they handle executable stacks, so transcoder initialization needed a fix. Named vulnerabilities landed in upstream dependencies including Tomcat, Log4j, Jetty, Spring Boot, Jackson, SRT, and OpenSSL, and each one needed patching, testing, and shipping. Java reached end of support on older releases, so the whole application needed recompilation and a namespace migration.

None of that work was optional, and none of it announced itself in advance. If you operate a media server, you inherit the same queue on the same timeline. Staying current means you inherit it as an update instead of an outage.

Moving to the Current Release

Wowza documents two upgrade paths, and the updater backs up your installation automatically before it applies changes. You need an active Maintenance and Support contract to reach the updaters, which per Wowza’s documentation entitles you to full upgrades, dot-release updates, and technical support by email.
