Announcing: Wowza Acquires Flowplayer

I’m delighted to announce Wowza’s acquisition of Flowplayer, marking another milestone in our 15-year track record of business innovation.

Flowplayer is a video player solution based in Sweden that delivers responsive playback, a lightweight code base, granular customization capabilities, and a rich plugin library. We’re continuing to enhance our products by integrating their technology into Wowza Video and Wowza Streaming Engine

Acquiring Flowplayer enables us to deliver end-to-end capabilities for businesses looking to unlock the value of video. Our customers will benefit from Flowplayer’s fast-loading player, extensible architecture, and advanced analytics.

We’re also excited to have Flowplayer’s international team join Wowza. The acquisition allows us to expand our physical presence in Europe and grow with the video demands of customers. In this way, it reinforces our brand promise to be the solution customers start with and the partner they scale with.

Enhanced Player Functionality and Tools

Wowza has been steadily shaping the streaming industry since 2007. Innovation has been a constant all along — and that will never change.

We’ve powered video for more than 35,000 organizations worldwide, and are a trusted solutions provider to more than 60% of the organizations on Gartner’s Enterprise Video Content Management Magic Quadrant.* Private equity firm Clearhaven Partners invested in Wowza’s growth in 2021, and our partnership continues to drive value for Wowza’s customers.

Having recently enhanced our video on demand (VOD) solutions with the launch of Wowza Video, we’re excited to further strengthen that offering with new player features, including Flowplayer’s best-in-class monetization and analytics tools.

While many content distributors already use Flowplayer with Wowza’s platform, our customers will gain access to capabilities that are only possible with our combined expertise. More specifically, Wowza Video will continue to deliver high-quality video to any device, while adding enhanced player configurability, flexible ad insertion, and greater insight into quality of experience, stream health, and viewer engagement across our integrated platform. Wowza Streaming Engine customers will also be able to take full advantage of this new player technology.

Maintaining a Focus on Customer Success

Wowza and Flowplayer share a commitment to customer-centricity, and this acquisition boosts our ability to be the full-service solution for businesses enhancing their products and services with video.  Our combined technology provides additional resources to solve our customers’ complex media streaming challenges.

We aim to drive innovation across every industry by delivering the one-stop video solution and reliable partnership that our customers need to scale their businesses. From there, we’re determined to bring countless more video implementations to life.

What’s Next

We’ll be maintaining our U.S. headquarters in Lakewood, Colorado and European-based office in Berlin, Germany while adding additional offices in Stockholm, Sweden and Helsinki, Finland. Both Wowza and Flowplayer’s customers can continue to use our products as they have been, and anticipate boundless innovation on the horizon.

We’re eager to welcome the Flowplayer team to Wowza and continue building the future of video together.
