Wowza Expands Global Delivery, Resiliency and Monitoring Capabilities

Company Releases Easy CDN options; Improvements to Facebook Live Streaming; Stream Health and Failover Features

NAB SHOW, LAS VEGAS, APRIL 25, 2017—Wowza™ Media Systems, the recognized gold standard in streaming, today released several updates to the award-winning technology portfolio, including the Wowza Streaming Engine™ version 4.7 software, and the Wowza Streaming Cloud™ service. The newest features improve the ability for broadcasters to deliver streams to global audiences at unprecedented scale to CDNs and Facebook Live, while further enhancing the monitoring and resiliency of streaming workflows.

“It’s often difficult for broadcasters to build redundant and reliable workflows that scale to audiences around the world,” says Mike Talvensaari, vice president of product at Wowza. “With these new capabilities, your entire streaming workflow can be managed and monitored in one place, which offers more resiliency and scalability with powerful CDN options.”

Extend Global Footprint with Simplified CDN Stream Targets

For a simplified user experience, Wowza customers can now attach and utilize Wowza CDN by setting it as a stream target, directly from the Wowza Streaming Engine software’s manager. In addition to the ease of configuration, Wowza CDN, a component of the Wowza Streaming Cloud Service, offers competitive new pricing—making it the most cost-efficient CDN option for pay-as-you-go scalability, with no upfront commitment required.

Among the new CDN delivery options is a designated Alibaba CDN stream target configurator. This simplifies the ability to push streams to Alibaba ingests, offering more choices to concurrently deliver into China and across the rest of Alibaba’s global footprint, with on-demand scalability.

Wowza Streaming Engine Now MPEG-DASH Certified on Akamai

Wowza Streaming Engine software users can now scale delivery of MPEG-DASH by leveraging Akamai. This allows for enhanced, compliant delivery of streams at scale, and more options to stream in cached formats beyond Apple HLS. By implementing DASH workflows, broadcasters using Akamai are now better able to deliver around the world, while satisfying European requirements for set top box delivery and multicast distribution via DASH.

Improved Facebook Live Streaming

Many broadcast workflows have been challenged with delivering multiple simultaneous streams to the Facebook Live API through Wowza Streaming Engine software. The enhanced optimization now provides greater stability and control to deliver multiple live-streams through a single instance of Wowza Streaming Engine. This is ideal for broadcasters and news organizations covering multiple worldwide events who wish to extend their coverage to Facebook audiences.

New Built-In Stream Health Monitoring and Redundancy

Wowza will also highlight several new advancements to the Wowza Streaming Cloud service that improve overall monitoring and resiliency of streams. The intelligent monitoring solution provides an easy dashboard to evaluate stream health throughout the entirety of the streaming workflow. Additionally, Wowza will demonstrate new fallback settings, to dynamically hot swap streams in the event of a failure.

Wowza will provide several demonstrations of the new Wowza Streaming Engine, Wowza CDN and Wowza Streaming Cloud technologies throughout the NAB Show Expo, April 24-27, in its booth #SU8521 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
