Last week, we released some interesting survey findings revealing consumer and business preferences and expectations for video streaming. According to our survey, conducted at the 2014 NAB Show in Las Vegas, 68 percent of respondents use 4 or more devices a day and expect access to high-quality video streaming experiences on any device. The survey also highlighted that more organizations are turning to live video streaming as a critical business tool.

Jeff Barr, chief evangelist for Amazon Web Services, wrote a great post on how joint customer BIMvid uses Wowza Streaming Engine on Amazon to deliver live streaming solutions for broadcasters, publishers, and events.
BIMVid is a great example of a customer utilizing industry leaders, Wowza for streaming software and Amazon for cloud services, to create and control their own streaming workflow to provide almost instantaneous scaling for optimal viewer experiences around the world and on any device to deliver high-quality content to any device.

As always, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this week gave us a look ahead at many exciting new products. While Carlos Perez and I were there, we explored the show floor to find innovative technologies that could impact streaming media this year. From all that we saw, five technology trends stood out to us as ones that will make it easier to capture, deliver, or experience streaming media in 2014.

Wowza Media Systems research results of a study that explores the “second screen” behaviors of 500 television viewers. Fifty percent of those surveyed were in the highly desirable 23 to 39 age group that possesses a considerable amount of purchasing power.
Surprisingly, forty percent of respondents have engaged with a TV show’s second screen app, showing the power of engagement with second screen content since these apps are relatively small in number.
