Announcing: WebRTC Support in Wowza Streaming Cloud

January 7, 2020 by

We’re happy to announce that Wowza Streaming Cloud now supports Web Real-Time Communication (WebRTC) streaming. WebRTC streams can be ingested by Streaming Cloud and repackaged into any popular HTTP-based adaptive protocol (such as HLS) for high-quality viewing experiences across a range of devices.

Traditionally known for real-time peer-to-peer communications, WebRTC can be scaled beyond one-to-one connections for global delivery when streamed via Wowza Streaming Cloud. This new feature allows content distributors to capture browser-based live videos as the source, ingest into Streaming Cloud for transcoding or transmuxing, and distribute to audiences of any size.

Whether you’re broadcasting to hundreds of viewers or hundreds of thousands, WebRTC can now be combined with the proven reliability and scalability of Wowza Streaming Cloud.

In the video tutorial above, Justin walks through the step-by-step process of connecting a WebRTC stream to Wowza Streaming Cloud. This feature is automatically enabled in all Wowza Streaming Cloud accounts — so we encourage you to try it out today!
