Deprecated features in Wowza Streaming Engine

Support for different technologies and features in Wowza Streaming Engine™ media server software evolves with each release. With new releases, certain features may no longer be recommended and are considered deprecated. Later, deprecated features are sunset and not supported in the latest version(s) of Wowza Streaming Engine. When features are deprecated with a Wowza Streaming Engine release, the deprecation is listed in the release notes. This article identifies deprecated features across the most recent versions of Wowza Streaming Engine and provides more information about the deprecation and sunsetting. After a feature is sunset, it is removed from this list.

MainConcept encoding and decoding for H.264 and H.265

MainConcept encoding and decoding for H.264 and H.265

Wowza Streaming Engine 4.8.11 adds support for Beamr software video encoding and decoding for the H.264 and H.265 codecs. Compared to the MainConcept encoder and decoder implementations, using the Beamr encoder or decoder implementations offers improved video quality with similar CPU usage. With support for Beamr, MainConcept software encoding and decoding are deprecated for H.264 and H.265 video. Beamr will become the default encoder and decoder implementations for H.264 and H.265 video when the MainConcept implementations for these codecs are sunset.

For information about using Beamr, see Configure Beamr software encoding and decoding. To migrate advanced MainConcept encoding parameters to Beamr parameters, see Migrate from MainConcept to Beamr.
