How to record webcam video using Wowza media server Adobe Flash Player example

This tutorial contains instructions that show how to configure a Wowza™ media server live application named videorecording to illustrate advanced video recording capabilities using Adobe Flash Player. This example requires a single computer running Adobe Flash in a web browser and a webcam.

Live video recording configuration

  1. Create application folder [install-dir]/applications/videorecording.
  2. Create configuration folder [install-dir]/conf/videorecording and copy [install-dir]/conf/Application.xml to this new folder.
  3. Edit the newly copied Application.xml file and make the following changes (some of these settings may already be present):
    • Set the <Streams>/<StreamType> property to:
      <StreamType>record</StreamType>
    • Set the <Client>/<Access>/<StreamWriteAccess> property to the wildcard character (*):
      <StreamWriteAccess>*</StreamWriteAccess>
  4. Start or restart the Wowza media server.

Recording and Playback

  1. Double-click [install-dir]/examples/WebcamRecording/FlashRTMPPlayer11/player.html, enter the information below, and then click Connect.
    Server: rtmp://[wowza-ip-address]/videorecording
  2. Click Record under the video preview window on the left, and then after some video has been recorded, click Stop.
  3. The recorded video should start to play in the video preview window on the right. If it doesn't start, click Play under the window.

Note: Be sure to give player.html access to your camera and microphone when requested so it can record some video.
